Housing Production and Affordability

The Impact on Regional Economic Competitiveness

Housing attainability and affordability are key drivers for economic development, as access to a larger workforce pool is increasingly an important factor in where a company chooses to locate.  In fact, in a 2018 survey of U.S. corporate real estate executives, “availability of skilled labor” was ranked as the most important site-selection factor.    But it is no secret that housing affordability and attainability are an issue in the greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan Region.

Many local jurisdictions have pledged to provide their share of the region’s housing needs, based on the current housing deficits projected by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG).  Creative solutions are needed to increase housing supply of both market rate affordable and low-income affordable housing.

Please join CREW DC for a panel discussion among local government and business leaders, policy experts and developers to holistically explore this challenge and the creative solutions needed to address the housing affordability crisis and enhance the region’s economic competitiveness.
