Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning: Opportunities and Challenges for Government Contractors
Presented by the NVTC Digital Transformation Community

As the federal government seeks to increase their investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technology, federal agencies and industry are presented with new legal, policy and business issues and risks to address. During this event, we will discuss key opportunities and challenges related to the federal government’s acquisition of AI/ML technology; the role of ethics, transparency, and trust in government contracting for AI solutions; challenges related to government data rights and intellectual property; current AI research and development efforts, and the role entities like the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) play in scaling and standardizing AI adoption. In addition, we will share several best practices from the commercial technology sector.

Roberts is responsible for ensuring that acquisition pathways and methodologies are centered on the JAIC mission of providing AI capabilities to the warfighter and DoD workforce. The work includes creating enabling guides, advice, and contract vehicles to assist the DoD services in the unique nature of AI as an emerging technology and how to tailor DoD contracting to meet this need.
