Peraton is Where You Can Do the Can’t Be Done

Fairfax County-headquartered Peraton is at the forefront of providing mission driven career opportunities.

“Everyone at Peraton believes in the importance of our customers’ missions,” said Matt McQueen, chief communications and engagement officer at Peraton. “Why do work that isn’t worth looking back on one day? Your career should be something of consequence. Impact the world.”

Formed in 2017, Peraton’s service areas include space, intelligence, cyber, defense, homeland security, citizen security, and health. Peraton’s name is a construct of the prefix per, which means thoroughly, and the word imperative, reflecting the importance of its customers’ missions.

Peraton is a next-generation national security company. We handle missions that matter, what we call missions of consequence,” said Rebecca McHale, Peraton’s chief human resources officer. “We cover all domains: land, air, space, digital, with all sorts of exciting and interesting missions.”

Peraton opened its new national and regional headquarters in Reston Town Center in October 2022. It houses Peraton’s corporate leadership, along with key leaders from across the company’s five business sectors.

“This office is 99,000 square feet and it provides a central hub for our employees in the area. It gives us space for town halls, media events, collaboration, and a place for us all to come together, innovate, collaborate, and deliver for our customers,” she added.

Dig this news! Fairfax County leaders and housing officials will soon break ground on a new multifamily housing complex with plans to bring more affordable housing to the Tysons area, according to a statement from SCG Development, WJLA reported. Wednesday morning, roughly 100 people gathered at 1700 Old Meadow Road in Tysons to ceremoniously begin construction on a 231-unit, mixed-income housing project, which is part of Phase A of Somos. This new development, partially funded through a partnership with Amazon, will be built on roughly four acres of land near the McLean Metro Station that was acquired by Fairfax County in 2022.  According to Fairfax County Board of Supervisors chair Jeff McKay, the completed project will include 456 units and is part of a larger goal to place 10,000 affordable residential units across the county.

Accelerating growth: U.S. defense contractor KBR has agreed to acquire LinQuest, a specialist in national security space systems, for $737 million, reported SpaceNews. The deal would allow KBR to bolster its footprint in the national security space sector. LinQuest was acquired by the private equity firm Madison Dearborn Partners in 2018. The company focuses on engineering, data analytics and digital integration for national security space missions. It has secured several major contracts with the U.S. Space Force, including a $500 million, five-year deal in 2021 for analysis support, and a potential nine-year, $200 million contract to advise and assist the Space Force’s Space Operations Command. Greg Young, LinQuest’s president and CEO, said in a statement the company has nearly tripled its headcount and quadrupled its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization since it came under Madison Dearborn’s ownership in 2018. He said KBR’s “expansive network and government technology expertise” will accelerate LinQuest’s growth across its core markets in the defense and intelligence communities. DCINNO has more.

Philanthropic plans: Tysons-based Capital One said it will commit $265 billion over five years to lending, philanthropy and investment if its acquisition of Discover Financial Services is approved by regulators, reported Washington Business Journal. Capital One is teaming with four community groups to make $200 billion in lending to low- and moderate-income consumers and communities across five years. It will not close any branches, and has committed to maintaining 30 percent of its branches and cafes in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, the company said. Additionally, Capital One said it will commit more than $35 billion to support affordable housing in those communities and individuals — a 30 percent increase over what the two companies previously planned.

For children’s care, it ranked third in Virginia and 17th in the mid-Atlantic. U.S. News included data from Inova L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital in its evaluation. “Year after year, I am more and more proud of Inova and the exceptional team of health care workers I am fortunate to lead,” Inova President and CEO Dr. J. Stephen Jones said in a statement. “Ranking No. 1 in the state and the region for four years in a row underscores our relentless commitment to providing clinical excellence and compassionate care to every patient in every community we are privileged to serve.”

As part of the acquisition, Patti Chanthaphone, the president of MindPoint, has been appointed as Tyto’s federal civilian group president. Potomac Tech Wire carried the release.

Golden anniversary: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the July 1974 dedication of its headquarters location in Reston. To commemorate its golden anniversary, USGS News posted a feature story on its website to reflect on its journey from its modest beginnings in Washington, D.C., to becoming a cornerstone of scientific excellence. “The story of the USGS and its headquarters building is one of perseverance and belief that physical space supports scientific excellence. From its early days in Washington, D.C., to its current home in Reston, Virginia, the USGS National Center has continually evolved to meet the nation’s needs. The John Wesley Powell Federal Building stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of its namesake and the ongoing mission of the USGS to understand the natural world. The architectural design of the building not only reflects the strength and resilience of the Survey’s mission but also provides an environment that fosters innovation and collaboration among scientists, ensuring that the USGS remains at the forefront of scientific discovery,” according to USGS.
