Celebrating her extraordinary achievement in growing and shaping the small business ecosystem in Fairfax County, the U.S. Black Chambers of Commerce has chosen FCEDA’s Director, Diversity Business Investment and Entrepreneurship Karen Smaw for inclusion in the 2025 Power 50 Women of Influence Class. Her visionary leadership and transformational impact in helping to grow small businesses and cultivating start-ups has transformed Fairfax County.

Each year, the USBC proudly recognizes 50 exceptional women who exemplify leadership, innovation, and commitment to community development through our Power50 Women of Influence program. These distinguished honorees represent diverse industries and sectors but share a common dedication to creating pathways of opportunity and breaking barriers for future generations.

“Helping entrepreneurs launch businesses and turn their dreams into reality has been one of the most fulfilling parts of my work. It is exciting to see a local business open its doors, create jobs, and grow right here in Fairfax County. Each success story is a reminder of why this work means so much to me. I am truly grateful to play a role in building the support systems that help our entrepreneurs thrive and strengthen the fabric of our community,” said Smaw. “Thank you to the U.S. Black Chambers for this recognition. I am honored to be included among the 2025 Power 50 Women of Influence awardees.”

The Power50 recognition celebrates women who demonstrate exceptional leadership in business, community, or public service; champion economic development and empowerment; mentor and uplift other women in their professional journey; drive innovation and excellence in their respective fields and create lasting positive impact through their work and influence.

USBC’s signature event, Art of Influence: Women Leading with Purpose luncheon, was held last month at the Salamander Hotel in Washington D.C. The prestigious gathering celebrated this year’s honorees and attracted an influential audience of business leaders, policymakers, and cultural influencers who engaged in dynamic networking in an electric atmosphere filled with laughter, celebration, and purpose.

Congratulations, Karen!
