SUMMARY:Becoming WOSB 101 10/3/24
DESCRIPTION:To help provide a level playing field for women business owners\, the government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contracting program. \nThese contracts are for specific industries where WOSBs are underrepresented. Some contracts are restricted further to economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs). The SBA maintains a list of those eligible industries and their NAICS codes. \nJoining the WOSB Federal Contracting Program makes a business eligible to compete for federal contracts set aside for the program. Firms can still compete. \nBENEFITS OF ATTENDING THIS WORKSHOP/WEBINAR: • Learn how the U.S. SBA and our Resource Partners can help you and your business advance • Learn how women-owned companies compete for\, and win\, federal government contracts • Hear about the more than $26.2B in contracts that were awarded to WOSBs in 2021 • 5% of the federal government’s prime contracting dollars must be awarded to WOSBs • Learn how the WOSB\, SDB/8(a)\, HUBZone and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned (SDVO) Programs help agencies achieve contracting goals \nTo be eligible for the WOSB Federal Contracting program\, a business must: o Be a small business o Be at least 51% owned and controlled by women who are U.S. citizens o Have women manage day-to-day operations and also make long-term decisions \nEconomic disadvantage standards have been aligned between the 8(a) Business Development program and the WOSB Federal Contracting program. Additionally\, funds invested in an official retirement account are excluded from the assessment of an economically disadvantaged individual’s personal net worth in both programs. 8(a) firms interested in pursuing EDWOSB certification may provide their most recent annual review letter or acceptance letter if in their first year through applying at beta.certify.sba.gov. \nJoin us\, virtually\, for this informative session! Webinar link and details provided upon registration. \nThis workshop is made possible by the generous contribution of time and expertise by a WBC volunteer. Please respect our volunteer’s time by logging in on time. If you are unable to attend the class\, please notify us promptly. \n\n\nSpeaker(s): Lisa Wood\, Statewide Director APEX Accelerator (formerly Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) \nCo-Sponsor(s):
