FCEDA’s popular (and free) “Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business” workshops return for 2020

Fairfax County, Virginia — The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority’s (FCEDA) popular “Entrepreneurship 101: Starting a Business in Fairfax County” seminars are back for 2020.

The first session of the year was held January 10. Upcoming workshops are scheduled for the mornings of: February 4*, March 7*, April 7, May 5, June 2, September 1, October 6 and November 3. (*Inclement weather dates –February 11, and March 10.).

These workshops provide an overview of start-up basics including county licenses and permits, state workforce and training program, and federal financing and certification resources.

Since 2003 the FCEDA has held a free monthly workshop for individuals interested in starting a business in Fairfax County. Held in partnership with the Fairfax County Government, Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD), U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Fairfax County-based Community Business Partnership (CBP), the sessions have attracted more than 5,000 attendees. The sessions provide overviews of:

  • business start-up basics (licenses and permits)
  • workforce services and training programs
  • SBA financing and resources
  • SDB, MBE and 8(a) certification

The workshops are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month, unless a holiday precedes the first Tuesday, in which case the date is shifted to the second Tuesday of the month. There is no charge, but registration is required and the workshops almost always fill up. Click here to find out which sessions are open for registration.

Registration and a networking breakfast begin at 7:30 a.m., and the program runs from 8:00 a.m.–10:30 a.m. at the FCEDA Authority headquarters, 8300 Boone Boulevard, Suite 100, Tysons, Virginia 22182. For directions, click here.
